Pioneering a New Path: Unveiling Utah's Latest Bikepacking Adventure

A Global Cyclist's Quest Leads to Utah's Untamed Trails

After pedaling through over 50,000 miles across six continents and 71 countries, British cyclist Tristan Ridley has set his sights on the United States, aiming to carve out a fresh bikepacking route through Utah's iconic landscapes. His mission: to bridge the renowned Great Divide Mountain Bike Route with the Baja Divide, crafting a seamless journey for fellow adventurers.

Crafting the Ultimate Utah Experience

Ridley's approach to route development is both meticulous and passionate. He immerses himself in local terrains, engages with the cycling community, and seeks out trails that encapsulate the essence of Utah's diverse environments. His goal is to design a path that not only challenges riders but also showcases the state's breathtaking beauty.

Overcoming Challenges on the Trail

The journey hasn't been without its hurdles. While attempting to traverse the Kokopelli Trail from Colorado into Utah, Ridley faced mechanical setbacks, including a snapped belt drive. Undeterred, he adapted his plans, viewing these obstacles as integral to the adventure and a testament to the unpredictable nature of bikepacking.

A Route for Every Rider

By focusing on the Utah segment, particularly the stretch between Moab and St. George, Ridley aims to create a route that's accessible to a wide range of cyclists. This new path promises to offer a harmonious blend of technical singletrack and expansive, remote sections, catering to both seasoned bikepackers and those new to the discipline.

Embracing Utah's Unique Terrain

Drawing parallels between Utah's landscapes and regions like the Middle East and Jordan, Ridley emphasizes the unparalleled allure of the area. He envisions this route as a gateway for riders to immerse themselves in Utah's distinctive terrains, from its rugged canyons to its expansive deserts.

The Road Ahead

As Ridley continues to refine this new bikepacking route, the cycling community eagerly anticipates the opportunities it will present. This endeavor not only highlights Utah's potential as a premier bikepacking destination but also underscores the spirit of exploration that drives adventurers like Ridley to chart new courses for others to follow.
