Osprey Escapist Bikepacking Bag System
The Osprey Escapist Bikepacking Bag system is a new release from the backpack giant that aims to give the niche world of bikepacking a new solution for on-bike storage. The system is comprised of a handlebar harness and bag, a seat harness and bag, as well as various frame and top tube bags. The bones of the system are built from the handlebar and seat packs.
The Osprey Escapist system is actually quite smart and we've got to hand it to them that they've done their research. Up front, the handlebar harness clamps to your bags securely and utilizes straps that run over the clamps to help keep it secure. Just a note here, this does make mounting a bike computer or a light kind of a challenge. The seatbag harness works the way traditional seat bags work by attaching to your saddle rails and then the seatpost.
Osprey certainly knows a thing or two about carrying systems and it's interesting to see them venture into this space. They're providing something of exceptional value compared to other options out there. While the bags are not cheap by any means they come in at a much lower price point than the competition. Unique Features of OSPREY ESCAPIST BIKEPACKING SYSTEM
What sets the Osprey Escapist apart is that each harness comes with a completely waterproof bag the easily slots into the harness. This is terrific. The handlebar bag is 10L and the seatbag is 9L. They're made of extremely rugged and durable 210D nylon without any PFAS.
Custom Harnesses
As mentioned previously, both the handlebar bag and seat bag come with a harness. Both provide a really stable platform. What's best about this is that you can very easily remove your bags to bring into the tent with you and it makes unpacking and repacking a cinch. Bikepacking is all about efficiency and this feature is fantastic.
One minor inconvenience with the seat bag however. To secure the system onto the seat post you actually thread the seat post strap through the seat bag. This can be a little bit annoying if you're consistently removing the bag from the cradle, though not a deal breaker. It requires dexterity so this may prove a challenge while wearing gloves.
Who is Osprey?
Osprey has been a major player in the backpacking world for decades. They're most well known for their incredible warranty that covers every pack from any time period. They make high quality gear that is well thought out. Recently, the brand was acquired by Helen Of Troy and has been absorbed into their family of brands. Perhaps that is one reason we see them branching out into the bikepacking realm? One thing you can be sure of with Osprey is that the products are designed with intention and the end user in mind.
