ICELAND - A Winter Crossing
An adventure from Joffrey Maluski
In 2021, after a three-month summer cycling trip across Iceland with friends, the idea of returning to experience the country in winter—at its rawest and most untamed—took hold. Two years later, I set out to make it happen, embarking on a journey from Seyðisfjörður in the east to Bjargtangar in the west. My route carved through snowfields and past Iceland’s three largest glaciers: Vatnajökull, Hofsjökull, and Langjökull.
With a fat bike and a pulka in tow, I hit the snow in March. This setup allowed me to ride more efficiently on packed snow and haul both the sled and bike on foot when cycling conditions became impossible. Upon returning, I relived the adventure through hundreds of photos and hours of footage, piecing together a film and writing a book to share every challenge and triumph from the expedition.
